Since becoming the primary implementing agency for the Digital China strategy in 2023, the NDA’s public events have offered valuable insights into the pace, direction, priorities, and messaging (both domestic and international) of China’s national digital agenda. My timeline of National Data Administration (NDA) events and insights follows below.

2024.12.30: NDA issues first batch of official definitions for key terms in the data domain.These NDA definitions offer an early blueprint for how the Party intends to structure China’s data domain over the next decade. Notably, the definitions specifically addressed the concepts of Whole-of-City Digitalized Transformation and the Industrial Internet.
2024.07.03: NDA holds tutorial on green computing power for Qinghai party leadersBeijing is now treating green computing power as a core political-economic issue, not merely an infrastructure or energy policy matter. The meeting also addressed the Eastern Data Western Computing project and the National Unified Computing Power Network.
2024.06.27: NDA hosts inaugural Singapore-China Digital Policy DialogueThe Singapore-China Digital Policy Dialogue is one of the earliest, and perhaps the first, formal bilateral policy mechanisms overseen by the NDA. The dialogue focused primarily on the topics of Artificial Intelligence Governance and Cross Border Data.
