This People’s Daily article and cartoon says lays out an important developing Party narrative on Digital China: the digital economy will transform China’s overall economy and society, benefiting the entire nation and serving as a future global model of socialist development.
A People’s Daily article published on November 29, 2017 titled “Digital Economy Gives the World a ‘China Model,'” laid out the Party’s narrative on Digital China in a clear-cut way. First, the Party’s elite triad of digital strategies are under accelerated construction: Cyber Great Power, Digital China, and Smart Society. Second, the digital economy, one of Digital China’s five “ways” will serve as the underlying driver for digital transformation of the entire “Five Sphere Integrated Plan.” Third, China’s success in building a digital economy will serve as a model of socialist development for the world and an alternative to capitalist development. The cartoon shows the digital economy driving China’s overall economy forward as a future model of development.
